Same Car. Same Day. Only the Coil Changed.
How we tested the Thunder Coil against our own Black Coil, and why we're publishing the real numbers, not a marketing claim.
The setup
Every BODAN product goes through the same question before it ships: does it actually do what we say it does?
The Thunder Coil was built to replace our Black Coil as the next step in our ignition line — better spark energy, a wider gap tolerance, more consistent delivery at high RPM. That's the theory. Before we'd put our name on it, we needed the number.
So we booked a session at Melbourne Performance Centre, put an R34 GTR Skyline V-spec on their Mainline Dyno Log dyno, and ran it back to back — once on the outgoing Black Coil, once on the Thunder Coil. Nothing else on the car changed between runs.
The method
This is the part most brands skip, and it's the part that actually matters.
- Same car. One R34 GTR Skyline V-spec, no swaps, no adjustments between runs.
- Same session, same day. Both pulls happened within 90 minutes of each other — 8:03pm and 9:18pm on 19 February 2025.
- Same everything else. Standard heads, standard camshaft, standard manifolds, standard induction. 98 octane fuel both times. Only the coil was swapped out.
- Independently logged. The dyno operator recorded both runs on Mainline Dyno Log hardware, not our own equipment — the printout you see below is theirs, not ours.
If a number moves under those conditions, there's only one place it can be coming from.
The result

| BODAN Black Coil (1.1mm gap) | BODAN Thunder Coil (1.6mm gap) | |
|---|---|---|
| Peak power | 270.1 kW @ 182 kph | 303.1 kW @ 182 kph |
| Peak torque | 388.1 Nm @ 140 kph | 434.4 Nm @ 140 kph |
| Motive force | 6,361 N | 7,121 N |
+33kW. +46Nm. One part changed.
Test conditions, in full
For anyone who wants to check our working:
Melbourne Performance Centre, Mainline Dyno Log dyno. R34 GTR Skyline V-spec, 98 octane fuel, standard heads, camshaft, manifolds and induction. Dyno report #13977.27, tested 19 February 2025. Compare run: BODAN Black Coil, 1.1mm gap, logged the same evening at 8:03pm. Test run: BODAN Thunder Coil, 1.6mm gap, logged at 9:18pm.
We're not asking you to take our word for it — the report number's right there if MPC ever needs to confirm it.
What it means
This is the standard every BODAN product is held to before it goes on sale: if we can't put a real dyno sheet behind a claim, we don't make the claim.
